Compliance and Non-Compliance are terms GFI uses to distinguish items that either do or do not meet GFI’s requirements for the GS1-128 case barcode. When a requirement is not met, the item is Non-Compliant.
Requirements to be Compliant:
- Label has Name of item and a GS1-128 barcode, formatted correctly according to the GS1-128 Symbology as set forth in the GS1 Organization’s General Specifications, with Date, Weight, and Lot/Batch data in the GS1-128, if required:
- Date: required for any perishable and/or consumable items
- Date in GS1-128 must match the date on the retail units inside
- Weight: required for any items that are sold/invoiced to GFI by the weight
- Lot/Batch: required for all items
- Date: required for any perishable and/or consumable items
- Easily scannable
- Good print quality, large barcode, good bar proportions, nothing obstructing the barcode (such as packing tape), barcode cannot be placed on bottom of case.
- Rule of Thumb: Hold the printed barcode at an arm’s length away. If you can clearly see all the bars and white spaces in between, then the scanner can as well.
- GTIN-14 correctly entered and maintained in MANTIS
- For GS1-128 barcodes specifically, the relevant fields can be found in Mantis under “Case Specifications” and then “Case Barcode Type” & “Case Barcode Number”.
- Information on barcode matches what is printed on the case label and interior units
If one, or more, of the above requirements is not met, the item is considered Non-Compliant and fees will be activated.
Examples of why items become Non-Compliant:
- GS1-128 Barcode does not scan
- Poor print quality, bad proportion, or small size
- Something (usually tape or another label) obstructing barcode
- Barcode is not GS1-128
- GS1-128 data incorrectly coded
- Incorrect Application Identifier used/does not match what is on label
- Weight is incorrect format or does not match label
- Date is incorrect format or does not match label or inner units
- Lot/Batch is missing
- Lot/Batch does not match Label
- GTIN-14 on barcode does not match data submitted in Mantis in “Case Barcode Type” or “Case Barcode Number” fields.
