GS1-128 barcodes allow for many different types of data to be put into the barcode. For food, the important data is date, weight, and the unique GTIN-14. This gives each company throughout the supply chain more visibility and confidence in the product. Scanning a case not only allows us to identify the item, but also to capture the date and weight information, which is critical for managing inventory and freight planning.
